About Transurban’s Women at the Wheel

Being able to drive can increase an individual’s self-confidence and ability to work, socialise and engage in the community. Unfortunately, women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds face significant hurdles in earning their licences.

Funded by road operator Transurban, the Women at the Wheel scheme aims to support newcomer women in training for and passing their licence tests. The program covers the cost of the driving test fee, as well as providing a 2-year driving licence for participants.

It helps them develop the practical skills required to safely operate a vehicle, understanding road rules and how to react to emergencies on the road.

How we help

We identify women from culturally and diverse backgrounds with a need to drive but no licence.
Staff deliver a program aimed at teaching road rules and driving techniques.
We support participants through their licence application and driving skills test.
