Privacy

Changes to the Australian federal privacy legislation came into effect on 12 March 2014 to enhance and harmonise the law regulating the protection of the privacy of individuals. This Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) comprises 13 Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) which apply to private sector organisations including SSI. You can find out more information about these principles by calling the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner on 1300 363 992 or through their website at www.oaic.gov.au.

SSI respects and upholds your rights to privacy protection under the APPs in regulating how we collect, use, disclose and hold your personal information. Only authorised staff have access to your personal information which remains confidential and is only used for appropriate purposes. SSI's Privacy Policy can be read here, and it explains how your personal information will be dealt with at SSI, how you can access and amend it, how you can make a complaint if you feel your privacy has been breached and how SSI will deal with complaints.

Further, SSI has developed a Privacy Management Plan, which addresses more specifically how SSI deals with information under NSW privacy laws, namely, the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW), and the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (NSW). A copy of the Plan is available here.
