FutureAbility DataCube

The FutureAbility DataCube was commissioned by SSI in 2015 to review and analyse the extent and prevalence of disability among CALD communities in NSW; and to facilitate their equitable and active participation in the current national roll out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

An interactive online data platform, referred to as the FutureAbility DataCube (FADC) has now been developed to present a large collection of statistical data about people aged under 65 years old with disability from CALD backgrounds throughout NSW. For more information, please read the project description on this page.

Project description

The FutureAbility DataCube report was commissioned by SSI in 2015 because existing research from the NSW Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC) revealed that people with disability from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD) had been under-utilising disability and support services in New South Wales (NSW).

The research highlights the urgent need for increased support to the multicultural sector to enter the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and provide better and more suitable support services for people with disability from CALD backgrounds.

The data obtained from this research has underpinned the implementation of the FutureAbility project, which assists multicultural organisations and community groups to enter and work within the new disability service system.

An interactive online data platform, referred to as the FutureAbility DataCube (FADC), has been developed to capture and present a large collection of statistical data about people aged under 65 years old with disability from CALD backgrounds throughout NSW.

The FADC offers an unprecedented insight into the diversity of disability in NSW from a CALD perspective resulting in a wide range of data, including:

  • prevalence
  • disability type
  • country of birth
  • age
  • primary language spoken at home
  • religion
  • migration experience
