Ability Links NSW

Ability Links NSW (ALNSW) is a free program that supports people with disability aged 9 to 64, their families and carers. The program is designed to help people plan for their future by building on their strengths and skills to lead the life they want as valued members of their community.

This video is available in: Arabic, Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin and Vietnamese.

SSI works in partnership with St Vincent de Paul and Uniting to deliver ALNSW through its Linkers, who have extensive knowledge of their local communities. Linkers provide a locally-based, first point of contact for people who want to access support and services in their community.

Many SSI Linkers are also bilingual and bicultural, making it easier for people of all backgrounds to feel supported to achieve their goals.

Linkers work closely with participants to discuss what their goals are and map out the best strategy to achieve them. Whether the goal is to participate in sport, education, volunteering, or expand their networks, with ALNSW people remain at the centre of decision making.

Linkers work alongside community organisations and businesses to help them build community capacity and to become more welcoming and inclusive.

SSI has Linkers in over 40 Local Government Areas in NSW, including the Blue Mountains, Northern Sydney, Inner West, South East Sydney, South Western Sydney and Southern NSW.

Sharing experiences: SSI Ability Links wellbeing outcomes research

SSI Ability Links has conducted the Wellbeing Outcomes research as a pilot project to measure the difference SSI Ability Links and EmployAbility is making in the lives of people with disability, their families and carers. This research has been developed to enable participants to share their experiences anonymously, provide feedback on the program, input into its direction, and highlight what is important to them.

Storybook project: Connecting our community

Connecting our Community: stories of courage, strength and determination is a compilation of personal stories of success and achievement of people who have been supported by the Ability Links NSW program.

The stories capture the voice and the journey of each storyteller with the aim of motivating and encouraging social change. By highlighting the valuable contribution people with disability make, they also illustrate the reciprocal benefit that inclusion has for individuals and communities.
