Community support assistant (community language)

Please note: this volunteer opportunity is based at Coffs Harbour.

The Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) supports refugees from the moment they arrive at the airport. Upon arrival, SSI’s HSP team provides essential support and information to assist and empower refugees to gain independence and build strong connections in their new communities.
Community Support Assistants build on the case management support offered to clients of HSP by providing language support, guiding access to local services, support with life skills development, local community linkages and building social networks.

Community Support Assistants will be required to provide language (Arabic, Farsi, Karenni or Burmese) to accompany clients to scheduled appointments, provide orientation including guidance to use public transport, and life skills support as required.

Housing assistant (community language)


housingPlease note: this volunteer opportunity is based at Coffs Harbour.

The Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) supports refugees from the moment they arrive at the airport. HSP provides on-arrival accommodation (OAA) for refugees on arrival in Australia, assistance to secure long-term accommodation (LTA), and Basic Household Goods (BHG) packages.

Housing assistants work with the HSP team to support clients as they settle into their OAA, find, secure and settle into their LTA. Volunteers are engaged to guide and assist clients to feel comfortable in homes during an incredibly important phase of their settlement journey.

Housing assistants will be required to provide language (Arabic, Farsi, Karenni or Burmese) to assist clients to feel confident to navigate the rental market including accompanying to housing inspections, and providing guidance of tenant’s rights and responsibility when renting a property.

Staples Bay Assistant The Staples Bag is a social enterprise where groceries are sold at discounted prices to improve access to nutritious and affordable food, and help address the growing issue of people living below the poverty line. With its primary store in Campsie, The Staples Bag also operates pop-up stores at retirement villages, social housing estates and in other community centres in partnership with local community organisations throughout the Sydney Metro Area.

Store assistants will support SSI staff to provide high quality service to Staples Bag customers, with tasks including stocking shelves, packing, product pricing and customer service.
