Youth Worker Training: Supporting Young People from a Refugee Background.

Settlement Services International is offering a series of one-day training sessions to those working in the youth work sector, focused on assisting workers to understand and respond to the needs of young people from a refugee background.

The training will help workers to understand the particular needs of young people from refugee backgrounds as well as the factors that lead to family breakdown.  The training introduces a case management framework for how  professionals can approach working with this group of young people to create effective settlement and casework outcomes.

The training also provides suggested case management and planning tools that serve as a guide for how to best address their particular needs. As part of the training participants will be provided with a copy of “Keeping Their Hopes Alive: A good practice guide to working with young people from refugee backgrounds” and will be given opportunities to practice using the tools through role-play and other hands-on activities.

Sessions will be held as follows with venues to be confirmed:

⎕   Sydney City, Tuesday 7th May 2013

⎕   Parramatta, Thursday 23rd May 2013

⎕   Sydney City, Wednesday 12th June 2013
